An Introduction To The Feingold Diet For Children

Every parent wants what’s best for their children. Sending them to school to learn all they can and improve their social skills is but of the utmost importance in any child’s overall development. A common disorder that prevents your loved ones from reaching their maximum potential is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

If you notice your child has difficulty with paying attention during class, doing homework, or has been displaying abrupt aggressive behavior lately, then it’s possible that he may be suffering from ADHD. There are several options available that can help treat this complication, such as adopting the Feingold diet.

This dietary program was created by Dr. Benjamin Feingold, a pediatrician who spent years studying the link between ADHD and nutrition intake. He then published a book back in 1970 regarding his findings, and included a recommended eating plan that’d help children fight the ailment.

Though the Feingold diet plan was formulated decades ago, it still remains popular today because of its affectivity. The eating regimen bans the ingestion of several elements from the typical diet, such as synthetic food coloring, even if many of these were approved by the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.

Anything with artificial coloring is prohibited in this special program. Even vitamins and toothpaste with synthetic coloring is strictly forbidden as well.

Moving forward, the Feingold diet also excludes the intake of artificial preservatives. Most of these additives contain harmful chemicals such as BHA and BHT, both of which have a petroleum base that’s known to trigger and aggravate the symptoms of ADHD.

Another thing that’s excluded from this dietary program is artificial flavorings, such as vanilla, MSG, and sulfites. Not only do these additives worsen the ability of a child (or adult) to focus or remain calm (as in not hyperactive), but they have long been linked to a variety of other health disorders as well.

The Feingold diet has helped thousands of children tackle ADHD. Problems with having poor attention span and displaying aggressive behavior can be addressed by adopting such a dietary program. Aside from the fact that this works effectively in handling ADHD, there are many adults that also adopt the diet for improving their overall health and well-being.
