Child Refuses To Eat Healthy Food: Tips For Dealing With This Problem
If your child refuses to eat healthy food, you’re not the only parent dealing with the problem. Millions of families everywhere have kids that prefer eating chips, doughnuts, hotdogs and anything detrimental to human health over fruits and veggies.
Sometimes, it’s just a matter of making the meal preparation look visually appealing or adding other ingredients to improve its taste. However, this method doesn’t work all the time, and there’ll always be that possibility where your loved one chooses not to eat the greens and good grub you’ve prepared.
With that said, here’s one tip that’ll help you handle a situation where your child refuses to eat nutritious chow: deny his playtime. Here, you give two options, namely: he or she can eat his greens and go out to play, or not eat the greens and stay at home.
You can also ban him from watching his favorite television show that day and even for the next few days until he agrees to eat whatever you put on his plate. Eventually, the first option in the paragraph above will seem more appealing, and he’ll give into your demands.
Another tip is to avoid shouting and putting too much pressure on him to get to do what you want. Doing so has the tendency to make the child go on an unstoppable tantrum, or get into a heated argument wherein he may gradually lose respect for you and rebel.
Hitting the child is something I’ve seen several parents use as their solution to the issue, which is extremely counterproductive. It may get the kid to do what you want, but using fear and your physical superiority to your advantage is just flat out wrong.
If your child refuses to eat nutritious chow and states that he’ll have nothing but the food he wants, do not give in to these terroristic demands. However, you could come up with a counter proposition, such as cooking his favorite grub every other Friday (or once a week if it isn’t super unhealthy) if he agrees to follow the weekly eating regimen you’ve prepared.
Last tip is to get your loved one to help you prepare these healthy meals. By getting him involved, it’ll place him under the impression that he’s helping you cook the food according to his likings, therefore increasing the chances of him eating the meal.
These are just some of many tips that can be used for handling scenarios wherein your child refuses to eat healthy food. If used correctly, the problem can easily be solved without having to utilize more drastic disciplinary actions for kids.
