Healthy Kids Meals: Home Made Pizza
Home Made Pizza
This is a healthy recipe that many children, young and old will enjoy. The activity is a lot of fun though it can get a bit messy. Children love being able to create their own pizzas, and adults usually enjoy it too!
Serves Four
Ingredients:
4 thin pizza crusts
Olive oil
Tomato sauce
3 white onions (chopped)
2 red peppers (sliced)
2 green peppers (sliced)
2 cups of mushrooms (chopped)
1 cup of chopped black olives
3 cups of chopped artichoke hearts
Mozzarella cheese
Instructions:
-
Give each of your family members a pizza crust to work with. Pizza crusts come in sizes so choose the small size for each of your children, and maybe a medium size for you and your husband. You can also choose to make your own pizza dough.
-
Put a little bit of olive oil on the pizza crust and spread it with a spoon or your hands.
-
Put a ladle of tomato sauce onto each pizza crust and spread it evenly on the crust.
-
Allow your children to place their own ingredients onto the crust.
-
Grate some mozzarella cheese on top of each crust.
-
Place the pizza crusts onto a baking sheet and bake in an oven preheated to 350 degrees.
-
Cook the pizzas until the cheese melts.
The ingredients listed above are for a simple vegetarian pizza. Feel free to use as many of each of the vegetables as you want. It's a great way to introduce vegetables to your children, and to get the, interested in many types of vegetables.
You can add other toppings to your pizza like anchovies, garlic, or pepperoni, but this no longer makes it vegetarian. You can also choose to grate all the mozzarella cheese and place it in a bowl so that your children can top their own pizza with cheese, but this usually means the cheese will be less evenly distributed. The choice is yours, however! Enjoy!
