Easy Cooking for Kids
Getting your kids involved in the preparation of your meals and cooking can be a great way for you to bond. It also becomes the perfect opportunity for parents to teach their children about the value of nutrition; not to mention that your children will be learning an important skill that they can use for life.
To make sure that cooking with your kids becomes something that you both enjoy and not a stressful experience; make sure that you prepare for things. Before you even start taking your things out, talk to your child about what you will be doing first. Plan cooking together on a regular basis like once a week during weekends, or whatever will fit your schedule. Make sure that the recipes you choose to chook together are simple enough for children to follow and that nothing will be too tedious or time consuming.
You can start out by having your children help with preparations. Have them clean vegetables; older children can help with peeling but make sure that you do not give them a knife and have them use a peeler instead. Even if your kids are old enough to be helping out, still make it a point to closely monitor them. Little ones can help out by handing you the ingredients that you need or dunking them into what you are cooking. Just see to it that they do not stand to close to the heat or they might get burned.
An easy to prepare dish that your kids will surely enjoy is Pizza. Use pre-made pizza crusts so that you do not have to knead and roll out dough. You can put the pizza sauce on yourself and have your kids put the toppings in. If you want you can use smaller crusts so that your kids can make their own pizzas.
Pancakes are also very popular with children and can be very easy to make. Little ones almost always enjoy having a go at mixing the batter or breaking in the eggs. Older kids can actually help cook their own pancakes or pour in the batter. To add some extra fun to this, try having your kids make faces on their pancakes using raisins, fruits and nuts.
Smoothies and fruit juices are also a hit with kids and easy to make with them as well. You can use any fruits that are in season and have your child pick out what he would want to combine. Choose fruits that will go together well so that no matter what your kids decide to pick, it will turn out okay. If you want to make a smoothie just add some yogurt to what you will be blending. Also, if your child finds that the drink is not sweet enough you can use a bit of honey instead of sugar to make it sweeter.
If you have any favorite family meals it will also be good to make them together instead of just eat them together. Cooking with your kids can be both fun and easy if you just take a little time to prepare for it and use your imagination.
