Healthy Snack Food:
Fruit Men

This recipe requires nothing but your patience, clean hands, some time, and imagination. You can do this with your children as an afternoon activity and enjoy a yummy snack at the end!

Ingredients:

Toothpicks
Bananas
Strawberries
Apples
Kiwi
Raisins
Sunflower seeds
Cheddar Cheese
Other fruits of choice

Instructions:

1. Get a pack of toothpicks.

2. Wash the fruits and set them on some platters.

3. To make Simple Banana Men:

  • Peel the banana halfway

  • Dig out tiny holes in the top portion of the banana to make eyes and a nose. Fill these in with raisins.

  • Create a sunflower seed mouth and serve

4. To make Mixed Men:

  • Cut the banana so you have two inch chunks in cylindrical shapes

  • Take a strawberry and stick a toothpick into the pointed side, attach the other end of the toothpick to you banana chunk. The strawberry makes a head while the banana chunk is the body.

  • Slice some apples or cheddar cheese into strips, fat enough to be arms and legs. Attach these strips to the banana body with toothpicks and serve.

  • Creating a mouth and eyes with sunflower seeds is optional

5. To make Mixed Women:

  • Follow the steps of making Mixed Men

  • Slice up a kiwi into thin slices

  • Cut holes into the center of your kiwi slice and fit these around the banana torso as a skirt

Fruit men and women require a bit of imagination but are a lot of fun. You can choose fruit in many colors. Mangoes, melons, and kiwis are great colors to add to you fruit men. Your fruit women can have kiwi skirts or melon heads. The sky is the limit when you use your imagination. Your children will enjoy making them with you and enjoy eating them as well!

A simple whole banana man fulfills one serving of fruit, while two fruit men will fulfill the same.
